since amanda knox was cleared of murder charges in italy. her legal drama is still not over. >> prosecutors will argue her murder conviction should be reinstated. joining us is niki baptiste. following since the beginning. thanks for joining us. what is the hearing about? >> the final step in the legal process. a big day for amanda if the supreme court decides to uphold the acquittal, she can move on with her life. if not, they go back to a retrial and the case is heard again and it could drag on for years. >> really incomprehensible. there really is a chance. do they think it is a long shot that they would say come back and do this all over again, take two? >> her lawyers, her family, amanda, they believe it is a long shot. a good chance it will be upheld and over after six years. >> how is she doing, a ton of stress, how is she handling it? what has she been up to since the acquittal? >> she is anxious for today's hearing. it is her life still in their hands. she spent the last year writing. lots of time with her family. her new boyfriend. and, just, she is actually back a

determine the fate of amanda knox. the american college student who was convicted and then acquitted of murdering her roommate. the prosecutors who held her behind bars there for four years are arguing she should be returned to jail. here's abc's nick schifrin tonight. >> my family is really the most important thing right now. and i just want to go and be with them. >> reporter: amanda knox waited four years for that homecoming. but tonight, she's anxious that italy's supreme court could put her freedom in jeopardy. >> the fact that she spent three or four years in an italian prison and this murder charge continues to hang over her head. there is no peace of mind. >> i couldn't understand why they were so sure i was the one who knew everything. >> reporter: in 2007, knox and her italian boyfriend, raffaele sollecito, were convicted of murdering their roommate, meredith kercher. they languished in prison for years. the world watched the dramatic moment they were released. >> both defendants have been acquitted. >> reporter: but now, prosecutors want to reinstate the murder conviction.

. >> and tiger woods in the lead. he could be number one. great to have you here. >>> now to the latest on amanda knox. an italian appeals court is in session trying to decide if she'll face another trial. over the 2007 murder of her roommate. john muller has the latest. good morning, john. >> reporter: today is the day. the end of a six-year legal nightmare or back to step one. a retrial. all eyes on the italian supreme court. this morning, inside the italian supreme court, prosecutors are making the case that amanda knox and raffaele sollecito should never have been acquitted of meredith kercher and are ordered a retrial. after they were released 18 months ago, prosecutors appealed the lower court's decision, citing contradictions in the rulings. kercher's family supports the appeal telling the media there are still unanswered questions. we're searching for the truth. in a statement to abc news, the knox family says this is another example of harassment by the prosecution. >> we're hopeful and prayerful that they'll render a verdict which will simply say that the apell at court acted properly.
